the battleground: part two

It's played a literal battlefield in Richard III and The Dark Knight. It's desolation needing little make-up. It's scale a character in itself threatening to usurp the leading man. It is at once monstrous and pitieous.

the battleground: part one

Ask me my favourite film and I'll be hard pressed to give you a definitive answer. But there's always a few that will forever hover within my top ten. It's a similar deal with buildings. I've no straight forward favourite, but this one will always be in that mythical short list. I love it all the more for it's dishevelled state, looming over the 1930's estates and terraced streets around it.

The battle over it's fate has been long and who knows when it will end, but I'm certain it will never be as magnificent in future incarnations as it is now. This summer I took advantage of the chance to wander around the site, camera in hand, a rare opportunity which more than lived up to expectations.

i like your style...

Currently on stage at the National Theatre in London, this revival of Tom Stoppard's 1977 play makes inventive use of cast and orchestra.

I've just seen a preview and even though it's only 65min long it doesn't suffer from brevity.

A consequence of being a theatre-goer is that you only truly enjoy 1 in 4 or 5 of the productions you see. But that's part of the appeal, as you never know when you might see the next Olivier winner, or a fantastic thespian performance from a young upstart you can tell will go far (Andrew Garfield is my pick!).

So if you can, go grab a ticket as it's over by the end of February.

Paradise, the animated short by Jesse Rosensweet, which I blogged about in October, is on youtube.
